We've done Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, and Vikings.
They have all been worthy shows, and are recommended, but they have not filled up the Breaking Bad shaped holes in our souls.

No, that's The Walking Dead.
Deadwood is about the Old West--the one we so rarely see portrayed because it's untidy, disease-ridden, corrupt, has whores who are real people and men who abuse them, and where the good men and women can't get a freakin' break at times. It was bawdy and fascinating.
I also have been enjoying Hell on Wheels, about the expansion of the railroad in the years just after the US Civil War. I haven't yet caught up with the current season, so I'm not watching it. (I watch this show on the treadmill in winter.)
Has anybody mentioned Mad Men yet? I like that one, too.

I've had to go back and rewatch a little to get all the pieces I need on my list. So far I have two beakers and a bunson burner. Do you know where I might get one of those cool masks? Oh!! I find it great.
Prison drama.
A lot of character development.
Mostly strong women. A lot of black, South American women shown with important story lines.
A lot of lesbians shown as well. Also in prominent story lines.
It gives you a bunch of criminals and makes them human. Very human.
