View Full Version : My Royal Legacy - Riddle Me This

Perks

As my reign draws to a close, by my authority, I'll add this game to ensure a memorial of my time as Queen.

Compose an original riddle. It need not rhyme, though this first one does. Post it here and make sure you check back to confirm or refute the guesses. Enjoy!

A no-man's land
Where water flows
This soil's infertile
So nothing grows
A refuge for reflection
A den of smoke and paint
Gate guarded by an icon
Ne'er mistaken for a saint
A haven for relief
Of burdens common to us all
But entry denied to every man
Though slave to nature's call

A ladies restroom? :D (one with an attendant)--or to be VERY specific, the one at my highschool, first floor (under lock and key and supervised due to assorted smoking pleasures...)

Yay! I never wrote a riddle before. It was fun! Somebody else write one. I command it. I still have two and a half days at this, you know.

ETA - in my riddle, the 'icon' was the universal "ladies' room" symbol. You know, the one with a bald circle for a head and a triangle for a dress.

She’s the ruler
But no one is cooler

She’s a little quirky,
But she’s oh, so perky

She’s the queen,
But she’s never mean

She always forgives,
Especially. . . uh, me

You might be more likely to be speaking of Jenna, but if it's me - well, flattery is never wasted.

Try this one - silly, but fun

A sunshine bulge
Two tapered ends
A taste, its tang
Convulsions send

Queen Perks rule
Is oh, so very fine.
In fact she is
Quite divine.
Always sweet
In every way
She doeth decree
Every single day.
Always kindly;
Always swell
She's a super Queen
Of this I tell!
Thanks my Queen
For all you've done
To all of us
You're number one! :Hail: :Hug2:

Once you've met me, you can't rest
you cannot shrug and let me go
but once you've seen me as a whole
do I still entertain you? No.

There is no joy in knowing me
when once my secrets you've exposed
but introduce me to a friend;
you smile as their vexation grows.

No outfit is complete
if I'm not part of it,
You never have to try me on,
I always seem to fit.

I go with everything you wear
or with no clothes at all,
But you can't order me online
or at a shopping mall.

What could I be? I'll never tell,
you'll simply have to guess,
I'm simply something that you wear
to show you feel your best.

Murky swill
Liquid will
Sweet or bitter
Addictions fit her
Morning lack
Hot tempers crack
Indulge at night
See dawn's first light

Sorry, Perks. I don't drink anything that could be described as a "mirky swill." :D

(I don't like coffee, either.)

sacredmime, I'm with you. I think RG's is a smile.

What, I'm the only person who accessorizes with monkeys? :)

Perks, the answer to your riddle begins on a sultry, summer evening at a club called “Ravenous”. Two strangers meet, their eyes flirt, their hearts follow. Soon, they are sitting side by side at the bar, they kiss, and the flavors of the drinks still lingering upon their tongues merge, sweet and bitter. They fall madly in love – drunk in love, you might say. The night is theirs, and they treasure every second of it. But alas, Morning comes, it always does. They are tired, hungover, and want nothing more than to go home and collapse into bed. Tempers crack as the dawn makes the sky pink. They argue. She slaps him. He slaps her. They slap each other simultaneously. She spits on the ground. He starts quoting Shakespeare. They run away from each other in tears.

At least, that’s what I think your riddle is saying. Or maybe it’s about monkeys.

Of course, coffee is correct and the muddier, the better. Sacredmime, I like monkeys as much as the next person, but really.

A short one:

A fetching blonde who has no peer,
distinguished by her golden 'heir'.
I, a prole, respect her breeding--
but wish I sometimes did the leading.

Enigmatic tidings
Enfolded sweetly
Brittle dog-eared cavern
Protects the oracle
The mystery held
In the palm of your hand
Not to reveal until
The belly be filled
Only to return
An hour hence
Wiser and ravenous

Ten for every year you're old
And two for every lie you've told
None for good deeds; skeins for worry
Sprouts in ire and fits of fury
Blue to brighten; brown to hide
Brush the shocks of time aside
Platinum lining ginger clouds
Moonbeam threads in ebon shrouds

Rail at God and blame the brats
I think I'll take up wearing hats

We neither write nor solve riddles, so the offering is going to be poor. Feel free to ignore it and post your own riddles, We will not mind. We would prefer it, as a matter of fact. Our main objective is to bring this thread back into the light, remembering the Reign of Queen Perks the Fierce, 11th Monarch of the Writer's Realm. Long may her Reign remain in the memories of all who frequent these halls.

Proclaimed this day, March 13, 2009, by Her Royal Majesty Queen Ambrosia, current ruler of the Writer's Realm.

(Now for the embarrassing part...)

Across the Universe you will find
Planets holding these in steep incline.
Our own beloved Earth does hold
Many of these from plain to bold.
Some reach up to heaven's grace.
Others the surface of seas do trace.
White blanketed or covered in black,
Hidden colors they do not lack.
Many a man's breath has been stolen away.
Others give song or kneel down to pray.
Time marches on, changes are made.
Yet death does elude, they do not fade.

What are they?

To know me is to know my name
To misuse me is a cause of shame,

From one moment to the next I'm never the same
When I'm lost it's you who are to blame.

Time for a little thread necromancy:

it's hardest to save it, and easy to spend
to waste it is easiest, everyone knows
no matter - it's gone just the same in the end
there's no more when you're out (sorry, that's how it goes)

though everyone wants more, we get it the same,
in increments - no point in joining a queue
it cannot be traded, or hoarded, or loaned
and what you've been given is only for you
