Hi all!
I have a line in Spanish in my book that I want to make sure I'm saying right. It's supposed to read,
"She's not as mean as she seems, I promise." Tone is mocking/joking/teasing -- the character is saying it to a third person about the MC in the MC's presence (he knows the MC won't understand him).
The character speaking:
I'm conversational but not fluent (not even close, hurr), and this is what I came up with:
"No es tan despiadada que parece. Te prometo." (Really not sure about "despiadada," that was out of the dictionary -- the MC comes off as ruthless and violent and has just yelled at them, but the character speaking sorta thinks she's got a soft and gooey center and likes to tease her.)
Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance (and reps in post )!

The character speaking:
- Spanish is a second language (English first);
- He's basically fluent but maybe not quite;
- Most of his exposure/learning has been with native Mexican Spanish because of whom he learned from;
- Has lived almost his entire life in Los Angeles.
