No, it's bondage.

There's a difference.

:D

Seriously--and how seriously can you take a comic book character, anyway--it's no worse than using sleeping gas (the Sandman) or shrinking down to microscopic size in order to evade your captors and trip them up somehow (the Atom)

You use what you got.

Wonder Woman rocks, in any case.

More or less appropriate than a hammer that shoots lightning, you mean?

If you mean it's a storytelling cheat, then I think you've got a point. It's a little too convenient a way to move the story forward.

However, there's an argument to be made that any superpower can be used as a storytelling crutch. It's always the writer's job to keep their super-man or -woman from turning into a Mary Sue who solves everything so easily that it saps all the tension out of the story.

I kind of thought it was cool how her weapon wasn't really a classic weapon (like Thor's) but sort of symbolic of the villains lies being their undoing. And then, of course, she uses her amazon warrior training to fight them. So she really is her biggest weapon, the lasso is more a last attack :).

This item is one of the most powerful objects in all of comic books.
The Lasso of Truth is an extension of Diana's belief in the truth. It is always at her side or in her hands, yet she never is concerned about it, as she lives her life in truth so she has nothing to fear. The Lasso is Truth, and that truth can be as big or little as she needs, and is unbreakable (even to the point of being able to bind its wielder) as that which is true can never be anything but what it is. It can compel truths from liars, but also control the will of those who don't believe in the strength of their own person-hood.

And yet it is interesting how seldom it is used to extract the truth, because what need does Darksied or even Lex Luthor have of lies when they can strike with devastating truthfulness of their own?

Yes, this is why Wonder Woman is awesome! Besides, she doesn't ever use it exclusively but also uses her brains. In other words, she rocks!
