I find the graph meaningless. You'd have to have access to every published author's contract to have any idea of what they are earning. And you also have to take into account that published authors have in many cases gotten an advance that means that the sales of their books may not have any effect on what they are earning at present.

Also to be taken into account is that we do not know precisely how the author earnings report is collected. And it is collected from Amazon lists that we also don't know how is collected. There are three layers of unknown in that graph (author contracts, author earnings report, amazon lists). It may coincidentally be close to reality, but that would indeed be a huge coincidence. More likely it is off by a significant margin.

In my opinion, you can't draw any facts from that graph at all. I am not surprised however that Hugh Howey and Co presents a graph that show self-publishing will earn an author more money. That is what they are arguing after all.

How much DO you know about the romance publishing houses, Adam?

Aside from quoting studies, that is.

Yeah, until people start publishing their tax statements, I'm not getting all hot and bothered about data collected from Amazon or "analyzed" by people with an obvious agenda.

KatyPerryfan19, you've been asked a number of times to engage with the community rather than posting drive-by links and meaningless questions and numbers. Please do not do this again. If you read the responses to your numerous posts of this kind, you can learn why people are not interested in this.

As for others, we do have an Ignore function. You don't have to read a person's posts if you are always annoyed by them. If everyone stops responding *it's like it isn't there*!
