As a PhD Film Studies student I have not had many chances to actually get paid for my writing (scholarly and peer-reviewed journals are more about sharing your research than earning a living), so this is a huge milestone for me. I really wanted to share it with all of you at AW as this forum has been a huge help in answering my newbie questions and giving me the confidence to get myself out there.
My article about John S. Robertson's 1920 silent film adaptation of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has just been published by Rue Morgue Magazine!
As if that wasn't thrilling enough, I have just had another article proposal green lit by HistoriCool, an Australian history magazine for children.

I'm just starting out in publishing so I am very proud and encouraged by these results. Hoping these are good omens for my recently completed scif-fi/fantasy novel and new short story! :D

Hey, that's actually a pretty big deal. Rue Morgue is a good one. Congrats. I'll have to check it out.

That's great news!
It's a nice experience to get your write-up published.
You're not only earning ... you're gaining popularity with the books you write.
I pray you'll be a recognized author.
I'll check it out back here.
It's nice to know few great writers especially at AW.

Thanks to everyone for their lovely and encouraging messages! I am very proud of getting my article published, but unfortunately, there is a sad note - I might not get paid after all. I have not heard from them since the article was published, although I emailed my invoice to the editor and the financial manager. I was promised a decent payment for the article as well as a free copy of the issue where my article appeared. I am a bit confused about what's going on now. Can it be normal for a magazine to remain silent about payment almost a month after the article is published?
