View Full Version : Unexplained absence

03-18-2006, 04:25 PM
I'm sorry for my recent unexplained absence. I've thought of you often and knew I could come here for support, but I could somehow never bring myself to do it. I guess I'll just get to the facts of it and try to keep it unemotional.

My eight year old niece Devan has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. With radiation treatment, she has 4 to 9 months left to live. There is zero chance of survival. For the world to be robbed of her charming, sweet, spunky, and clever personality is a tragic injustice.

I will be back later, in a week or so, when my family and I have had more time to process all of this and maybe when I can really express my feelings about it all. Ok, I can feel emotions welling inside. Time for me to go.

You AWers are wonderful. I just wanted you to know I miss you all and will be back soon.

Enjoy as much time with Devan as you can. Make her smile and give her lots of love. We'll be praying for her & your family. ((Big Hugs))

Story, I can't express the depth of my feelings for you and your family. No parent should have to endure the pain of outliving a child, and that goes for the entire extended family as well. You and your family are in my prayers.

03-18-2006, 06:12 PM
thoughts and prayers for peace and healing to you and your family. I'm so sorry to hear this.

My eyes are filled with tears for this little girl. I'm so sorry. I know there are no words that will help.

We all care about you and those you love, and will remember you in our prayers.

03-18-2006, 08:31 PM
Oh, this is just terribly sad and unjust, even though we all knew that life wasn't fair.

I hope you will enjoy the days Devan has remaining, and that your lives will be richer for having known her for however short a time she had.

Maryn, misty

Storygirl... as someone earlier said, no parent should outlive their child but it happens more often than we care to think about and it is the saddest thing on earth to have to deal with... the more lovely, the more heartbreaking such news is. Your time to accept is so short. You will be in my thoughts constantly and I hope you know that there are safe places you can go to help you deal with this trial.

I have a long time friend who lost her son to cancer he had battled for several years until he died just before his 18th birthday. He was her only son and for most of their lives together it was just the two of them. She had a very hard time dealing with his death and needed a safe place to help her deal with it... so she set up a foundation in his name. She has a website with a forum dealing with all types of cancers. If you'd like to have the site address, I can give it to you. They are a wonderful group of people and Just-A-Gal (real name is Trudy) is one of the most caring supportive people you are likely to meet.

Story, as powerful as we know words can be, there are truly times that they seem so weak and ineffectual.

I'll be praying for you and your family.

Words fail me. Love and prayers to you all. *hugs*

Like I said before, Story - these are the things that make people into either saints or atheists. You will get through it, even though you have no idea how.

You have my number.

I'm sorry to hear about this, Story. My prayers are with you.

I'm very sorry, Storygirl.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I will pray for a miracle and if that isn't, ultimately, Devan's path, I will also ask that her journey is filled with as much love, joy and compassion possible. I will also ask that the congregation in my Church remember your family.

Be strong.

03-21-2006, 04:13 AM
That's about the most heart-wrenching news anyone could possibly hear, or have to share. My deepest sympathies for you and your family.

03-21-2006, 04:16 AM
That's just wrong. My son is eight and I can't even imagine getting a diagnosis like that.

I wish you and your family all the strength in the world.

03-21-2006, 05:33 AM
Sometimes words just don't seem like enough. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Take care.

Oh ((((((Storygirl))))))

I wrote you earlier but your box was full.
My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. I can't even imagine such a thing. No one should ever have to go through something like that.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
:Hug2: You're all in my thoughts and prayers.

03-22-2006, 07:14 PM
I'm so sorry for you and your family. I will pray for Devan's and your peace...

03-22-2006, 11:45 PM
Storygirl: I am so sorry. Please give that precious little girl a big hug for me.

One thing to pass along to Devan's parents: Call around and locate a pediatric hospice agency. These people are angels placed on this earth.

03-22-2006, 11:49 PM
When you need me call me. 1pm..3am...

03-24-2006, 01:05 AM
Storygirl I got your message but when I tried to PM the information I got a message telling me your pm box is full so I'm pasting that message here in hopes you see it soon.

Hi Story,

I hope these help you and your family during this awful time.

Trudy works diligently on this site:

that's the main part of the site.

the forum section is here:

The message board is really new. They've been using Yahoo groups for support posts but I installed, skinned and configured the message board for her only a couple of weeks ago so there won't be a lot of members or posts yet. She's still adding forums and will welcome all of you with open arms. She's a lovely lady with a heart of gold.

03-27-2006, 03:04 PM
For anyone wondering about "storygirl", I heard from her yesterday. She's in Colorado visiting her niece and other family and has limited use of a computer.

I guess she's doing as well as someone can with a husband in Iraq and then having to worry about her niece.

03-27-2006, 07:08 PM
This world can be a painful place. My heart goes out to you and to Devan and her family.
Words may not mean much at a time like this; but please know that you are in our prayers, as is she.

And I haven't forgotten your dear husband.
