My dear friends....

I've been sitting on this news all week, and it has been one of the most difficult secrets I've ever had to keep. I can't believe this day has come. As you are all painfully aware by now, our Jenna has decided to step back from the day-to-day running of the forums. That task has now fallen on – er, to me. Actually, I was asked quite nicely, the brass knuckles were only brandished, not used.

It's hard to believe how much has changed since I first stumbled across the Absolute Write Water Cooler a few years back while looking for a spot where I might learn a thing or two about this writing game. I never expected to find a home like this, and yet here I am, hobnobbing with some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure to meet, online or otherwise.

I don't have to tell you how much Jenna means to this place. In fact, the Water Cooler always will be hers. I think of myself as a steward, just here to look after it for her with the help of the best gang of moderators on the Internet, bar none. I'm also going to do my level best to be every bit as approachable as Jenna. Just please be careful when swimming across the moat, arrowqueen sometimes forgets to feed Nessie.

We've always had Jenna's one rule. It has stood us in good stead over the years, and I see no reason to change it in any way. However, I would like to add a few new ones (with a tip of the hat to Monty Python).

And so, without further preamble, the reading of the rules:

  • Rule number one: RESPECT YOUR FELLOW WRITERS!
  • Rule number two: There will be no mistreating the newbies ... if there's anybody watching.
  • Rule number three: RESPECT YOUR FELLOW WRITERS!
  • Rule number four: I don't want to catch anybody ... not writing.
  • Rule number five: RESPECT YOUR FELLOW WRITERS!
  • Rule number six: No Spammers or Trolls!
  • Rule number seven: RESPECT YOUR FELLOW WRITERS!

Well, that's it then. I know each and every one of you will do your part to continue to make the Absolute Write Water Cooler the best writer's site on this or any other planet.

Carry on – or if I might be so bold as to pay tribute to one of the most amazing people I have ever had the honour of calling my friend – write on!

Charlie

May I so humbly propose. . . Rule number eight: PASTA FOR EVERYONE

I wondered why 'Chunky C' was referred to recently as running the joint - now I know. I haven't the slightest doubt the Board will continue to flourish. I'm a relative Newbie but what a great place this is.

Congrats Charlie - you're the man for the job! I was wondering about Jenna's stepping out of the limelight of running the joint. I'm sure you'll continue to do her and AW forum proud. Hopefully, she will still be visiting us frequently, yes?

We'll do everything we can to help out along with following the necessary rules of course.

I stumbled in here late last year, and it was one of the best things that has happened to my writing and my sense as a writer. This is truly an awsome site, my thanks to Jenna and everyone who has contributed to what this place is.

What is it to me?

A 24 hour writers coffee shop
A writing school and workshop
A support group for all of us suffering under the literary delusion
A source of unlimited creative ideas
An egalitarian gathering of the novice and the accomplished
A place that is 95% warm and fuzzy and only 5% discipline
A demilitarized zone for both the future dilettantes and the future bestsellers
An outstanding resource referrence
A place for artists to vent and bond

And would you believe that I'm not one to heap praise upon any one or thing undeserving. I don't know why Jenna is stepping down except perhaps the wear and tear of governing a site like this. But may this place be here forever. And may we always respect each other and our craft.

My personal thanks to Jenna for everything this site is and will be.

PS I love that it is free, I'd surely pay to be here.

Congratulations Chunky!! I have no doubt of your ability to keep this wild group in line!

Jenna--thank you for all your time, knowlege you have shared and just plain love you have showered on all of us. Even though we have never personally met, I feel you are my sister. Rock on Girl! and you have my prayers with all the commitments you have going right now. The stress must be unreal. Take care of yourself first.
Come see us often!

Love,
Paint/Sandy

Where've I been? I just read this thread. Geesh! Anyway, CC, as I said before, I knew you when. I remember waving to you, saying "welcome to the boards.":hi:

How time has flown. Now I'm getting misty-eyed.

I know you'll do a great job in keeping the place the way Jenna wants it. Jenna has made this the best writer's board on the net (and I think I've visited most of them).

I raise my mug of hot coffee to you!

And to Jenna, too!

High Steward of Absolutia, I acknowledge your magnificence!

Congratulations Chuck.

Does this make us the Knights that say "Nee?" - Monty Python joke for the uninitiated.

Like I said, this is the best online community anywhere.

PS -- I want a shrubbery. A nice two-level one with a path running down the middle. <- 'nother Python gag

I just noticed that CC is a foreigner. Didn't we have enough problems with our ports?

At least he's not asking for a license for his pet fish, Frank.

And now that the site's in Canadian hands, you're the foreigner, rich. :D

I'm not all that troubled with that, but I figured ownership of this site should have been better negotiated--say ten percent of Alberta sand oil for a lease on this place for maybe the next five years.

Promise to keep Paula Abdul off the air for the same period of time and you have a deal, rich.

Wow. I feel like I've been away forever and then I come back to this. *sigh*

Congrats Chunky. You'll be fantastic.
