In the Mississippi senate GOP primary the terrible defeated the horrible.

Thad Cochran, the creaky establishment conservative beat back the tea party challenge of the fire-breathing younger arch-conservative Chris McDaniel.

And in New York it appears that Charlie Rangel has prevailed over his challenger Adriano Espaillat. I thought he would be able to survive the ethics scandals, the house censure, and failing to gain the endorsement of Bill Blasio or Pres. Obama.

But I thought that beach chair photo of him would sink his campaign.

What a fighter. Well done, sir..

Just for historical grins, several years ago there was a tight congressional or senate race in either Michigan or Ohio in which one of the major contenders was named "Posthumus".

He lost.

About the same time we here had a local city council election between Steven Strait and Becky Gay. It came down to a recount, and Strait won by three votes. This made a trivial amount of national news humor at the time.

A dark, evil place.

It was Michigan and he lost because rather than going out to vote, all the Republicans stayed at home sitting on their kzadek.

Damned if that accent doesn't sound more Canadian than Alaskan.
