Pogue mo thoin....um...No!

I mean...uh...

Eirann go brach!

;)

Happy St. Patrick's Day to the actual Irish, us Irish descendants, and all you who just want an excuse to get drunk for the day (not that I'll be getting drunk, but I also won't be eating any blood pudding/sausage, either. Ugh...I hate that stuff worse than I hate cabbage).

I will be hoisting a pint o' Guinness or Murphy's after work, though.

Hugs and kisses,
Shane (aka Opty)

Maiden name, Daley--born and raised in Chicago, but no relation to the "Daley's" Now I live in Georgia, and I can't convince anyone to help me dye the Chattahoochee River green; so I'll just have to settle for sprinkling some green mineral crystals and shamrocks into my bath water.

OH! I just remembered - I'm part Irish. (my dad was quarter Irish)

Why do the Irish eat such weird stuff?
And why does everyone feel like they have to make everything green before eating it?

My daughter has a "culture enlightment activity" planned for tomorrow at school (aka: party - but they can't use that word in class) -- and everyone is taking green foods and green (non-alcoholic) drinks.

I should've known you'd be a Pogues fan.

Common ground, at last! *sniff* Pass the whiskey, boyo.

When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!

Completely sideways, man
MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU,
MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK
MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE
THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS
AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND

YEAH! Happy St. Patrick's Day to you.

And no, despite my hubby's begging, I will NOT be making corned beef and cabbage. I hate cabbage - the smell of it, the texture, all of it. Ack. I will eat saurkraut occasionally, like on a reuben, and coleslaw, if it's GOOD coleslaw, but I'm pretty much turned off by boiled cabbage. I also destest Haggis and blood pudding.

Maybe I'll make a nice shepherds pie and call it a day.

I also hate Guinness. And I've had it in Dublin, half a mile from the brewery. Still don't like it. But then, I'm not a big beer drinker anyway. Although, I just found out that if you drink a Guinness, and you happen to be a nursing mother, you'll produce twice as much breastmilk.

Wish I had known THAT three years ago, when I gave birth to a ten pound baby and was beating my head against a wall trying to catch up with the little butterball.

As the plaque next to my door says "Ceade mile Failte"

Slainte!

If any of you aren't wearing green -- I'm gonna pinch you!

All right, already! I changed my shirt to a green one. Happy now?

May God be with you and bless you,
May you see your children's children,
May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

May God grant you many years to live,
For sure He must be knowing
The earth has angels all too few
And heaven is overflowing.

True, true, true! I might have this a little confused (it's been a while....) but the Picts were the people who were FIRST in Scotland, but a band of Irish people went to Scotland and settled there, and they're the ones who became known as Scotsmen. If I'm not mistaken, this is why many people of the Clan MacDonald also have Irish heritage if they go far enough back.

If I have that backwards regarding which group was known as the Picts, and which group was known as the Scots, please correct me. As I said, it's been quite some time since I used that information on a regular basis.
