In less than a week, I will be getting (in my mothers words) my 'beautiful perfect skin permanently mutilated'. Again.

As always, I am very excited. Giddy, almost.

I am getting a gormenghast-themed tattoo covering my right arm.

I had to look up what gormenghast even was. I've never heard of it before. Do you have a picture or description of what you're getting?

I'm so sorry that you've never read Gormenghast, or seen the BBC show.

Yes, I do: You can see the sketches on my pinterest. The colours will be muted in a watercolour style, the lines heavy, black and scratchy like Mervyn Peake's art.

After this one, I have another planned - (remember you always have the option of taking to the sea) down my inner left forearm.

I'll have to look for them. Like I said, I've never heard of it before, but always happy for new recommendations. :)

It's beautiful! You've clearly been planning this tat for a while. (Also I'm pinstalking following you now. :D)

Gormenghast is one of my favourite books and has been very important to me for a long time. It can be hard going, though.

I've been planning this tattoo for about 4 years, finally got enough money for it.

And it's there, on my arm.

At least, most of it.

After four hours, there's still some shading to do, still some owls to add, and still colour to slap on.

Yea! Are you going to post a picture or wait until it's finished?

1 or 2 more sittings, depending on my energy levels.

I can post pictures, if you'd like, but please bear in mind that this is a work in progress.

Amazing detail! I'm excited to see it all finished. Where is the other owl going?

There's gonna be owl silhouettes (like the ones on my collar-bone) flying through the gaps that are currently there, then splashes and splats and streaks of paint-style colour.
