I went to a place called Minnehaha Falls today and took 138 photographs, I was so enamored with the place! I wish I could upload about 50 of them!

I use photographs as inspiration. They act as triggers for ideas for me. So, I thought they might do the same for others, too. That's what made me think of starting this thread. Photographs are also great writing prompts and exercises.

So, if you have an inspiring photograph that YOU took (copyright safe), please post it and share the inspiration!

This is a nice idea, and--as you say--we must restrict ourselves to images we own, not anything under copyright.

Are you suggesting that we post story ideas, or perhaps mini-stories, based on these images?

If you think of a good writing prompt or exercise for a photo that's posted, go for it! Or post a photo of your own with, or without, a writing exercise.

A wonderful idea, but before anyone else posts photos, please read through the guidelines of the Images FAQ (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258870).

FictionalCowboy, please resize your images. Thanks! :)

oh this is a good idea. I've got a whole folder on DA of pictures that inspire stories. I look at these pictures and could write an entire story about the image, both photo and drawings. Here's the folder (http://elegantfaith.deviantart.com/favourites/50703786).

Would love to look at pictures that inspire other people.

There are actually a few obscure picture blog Tumblrs I saw being linked to on another site a while ago. It's nearly four in the morning now and I'm way too tired to go searching for them, but I'll just post in here now to remind myself tomorrow morning.

Great idea for a thread by the way. Inspiration comes from the oddest of places.

I took this photo ten years ago during protest demonstrations outside Madison Square Garden, at the time of the GOP convention that renominated George W. Bush. I wouldn't call it a scenic picture. It's not pretty, but it has elements that might lead to a story idea. :)

If I'm honest, photographs of scenery might be pretty but they're unimaginative when it comes to writing prompts. Pictures like your's really spur the imagination. People tend to do that. Static scenery doesn't. And, yet, I continue to take a lot of scenery pictures because setting is a very important element of writing fiction to me.

I'm going to challenge myself to get out and take more pictures like the one you posted. See? You've already inspired me! In the meantime, here are a few more...
