Forgive me if you've already heard my expressions of excitement and relief somewhere else...
Last summer, July to be exact, it became apparent while I was being roasted in Query Letter Hell that my MMC/Love Interest needed a personality transplant. Lemme tell you, it was demoralizing as hell. I loved him, flawed and selfish though he was. The problem was, his flaws and selfishness combined with my MC should have had her saying EFF YOU and kicking him to the curb. So it wasn't just his personality, it was a bunch of motivation stuff, too.
After running through the stages of Writer's Grief--Disbelief, Urge to Trunk, Spinning Wheels, Breakthrough--I got my act together and slowly, painstakingly rebuilt my book.
Now, I may have created new problems. Betas'll let me know. But I made it to The End, and I'm feeling a tremendous sense of accomplishment because, in the past, I would never have buckled down and done that work.
Honestly, I hope I never have to again.
