Very excited! Having refused two offers to date I have accepted an offer from Tickety-boo press for my Abendau trilogy. Tickety-boo are new, but they have a stable of great writers already, including Teresa Egerton, and editors who I've worked with before and found to be brilliant. I'm really excited about it, if looking at the editing ahead with trepidation.

Not where you last saw me.
Hi, Springs2

Congratulations! I replaced your shortened URL with the longer link because AW doesn't allow shortened URLs.

I'm moving your thread to Goals and Accomplishments, but please DO start a thread in Announcements once you have a book title and a release date.

Congratulations on finding a publisher and on your happy news, too.

Best,

Ari

Since you are so prolific. Care to share your methods for generating ideas? Personally I have trouble getting ideas that don't sound completely stupid to me.

I enter flash fiction comps on a specialist SFFF website, which spark a lot of them. And I quite often find myself reaching for the blackberry just as I start to nod off and some new character comes knocking. :)

Thanks everyone! Things are feeling more real now. Hopefully there'll be a cover soon and details of a launch event at some point. :)

Awesome! Just out of curiosity, why did you refuse those two previous deals? I haven't been offered a deal before so I was just wondering what you didn't like about the contracts.

I refused the first because the publisher had an unusual business model which offered net profits after unspecified deductions including cover art etc, and I didn't feel the return on the book could be guaranteed. A thread on the publisher in Bewares and recommendations was very active at the time and the advice I received, including specialist external advice, was that the deal offered wasn't in an author's best interest.

The second was harder as it offered an advance, which this deal doesn't. It was with a start up publisher, but I didn't feel the business model could support distribution to shops and the royalties were very low.
