My work-in-progress is set among Macau casinos.
I read somewhere that the Cantonese name for the Joker (the playing card, not the Batman villain) translates into English as 'The Devil King'. There was a prominent gangster in Macau who was known as The Devil King because he had drawn the Joker twice in consecutive hands in a game where they were wild cards.
I asked several Cantonese speakers that I know and they told me the card is just called 'Joker' in English (or Chinglish)
can anyone enlighten me?
