For me it's "Shadow On the Sun," by Audioslave. It's sort of this screaming, jazzy, noirish-moody, smoky type song I like to listen to while pumping iron. Quite conveniently, it's followed by four other songs I absolutely adore, which so seldom happens on a track: "I am the Highway," "Exploder," "Bring 'Em Back Alive" and "Hypnotize".

I Am the Highway

Pearls and swine bereft of me
Long and weary my road has been
I was lost in the cities
Alone in the hills
No sorrow or pity for leaving I feel

I am not your rolling wheels
I am the highway
I am not your carpet ride
I am the sky

Friends and liards don't wait for me
I'll get on ll by myself
I put millions of miles
Under my heels
And still too close to you
I feel

I am not your rolling wheels
I am the highway
I am not your carpet ride
I am the sky
I am not your blowing wind
I am the lightning
I am not your autumn moon
I am the night

I have a lot of them. I go through "phases" where there's something I'll listen to a lot. It'll be something that I always like, just I get into listening to it a lot more at times. Most of the phases happen often, over and over again, which is a good thing.

OK, I don't necessarily have any songs I listen to obsessively. I do have groups I listen to obsessively and generally I listen to the whole album when I put one on. (They're still called albums, right?)

Bands I listen to in their entirety because I'm obsessed about them:
Black Sabbath
Captain Beyond
Gentle Giant
Hawkwind
Rob Zombie
Journey's first 3 albums
Drain STH
Uriah Heep

And I thought I had esoteric tastes.

You're the only person I know who's simple answers to simple questions require massive amounts of marginalia. Well, the only person other than me. But that's why we love you. And I'm using "we" in the British sense, meaning me. Does everybody in Britain have MPD? Explanation, sir:)

Sweet The Sting by Tori Amos. When I'm in the mood for that song, I could listen to it seventy-two times in a row, I think.

I have 2 CDs that get played over and over and over...

John Barry's Moviola
Green Day's American Idiot

The former is perfect music to write by, the latter is perfect music to go around driving topless with it blaring out of the car's speakers :)

I have very diverse tasts in music. Here are some of my favorites.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paula Cole - Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?

Oh, you get me ready in your '56 Chevy
Why don't we go sit down in the shade?
Take shelter on my front porch
The dandelion, sun's scorching
Like a glass of cold lemonade
I will do the laundry, if you pay all the bills

1-Where is my John Wayne?
Where is my prairie son?
Where is my happy ending?
Where have all the cowboys gone?

Why don't you stay the evening
Kick back and watch the TV
And I'll fix a little something to eat
Oh, I know your bacak hurts from working on the tractor
How do you take your coffee, my sweet?
I will raise the children, if you pay all the bills
(rpt 1)

I am wearing my new dress tonight
But you don't, but you don't even notice me, ooh, ooh
Say goodbye, say goodbye, say goodbye

We finally sold the Chevy when we had another baby
And you took that job in Tennessee
You made friends at the farm
You joined them at the bar
Most every single day of the week

I will wash the dishes, while you go have a beer
(rpt 1)

Where is my honorable man?
Where is his shiny gun?
Where is my lonely ranger?
Where have all the cowboys gone?...

Yippy yi, yippy yay

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Eric Clapton - "Tears in Heaven"

Would you know my name if I saw you in Heaven?
Would you feel the same if I saw you in Heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong here in Heaven ......

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in Heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in Heaven?
I'll find my way, through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in Heaven .....

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart, have you begging .... please ...

Beyond the door, there's peace I'm sure.
And I know there'll be no more tears in Heaven .......

Would you know my name if I saw you in Heaven?
Would you feel the same if I saw you in Heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong here in Heaven .......

----------------------------------------

Diana Krall - "The Look Of Love"

The look of love is in your eyes
A look your smile can't disguise
The look of love is saying so much more than just words could ever say
And what my heart has heard, well it takes my breath away

I can hardly wait to hold you, feel my arms around you
How long I have waited
Waited just to love you, now that I have found you

You've got the
Look of love, it's on your face
A look that time can't erase
Be mine tonight, let this be just the start of so many nights like this
Let's take a lover's vow and then seal it with a kiss

I can hardly wait to hold you, feel my arms around you
How long I have waited
Waited just to love you, now that I have found you
Don't ever go
Don't ever go

=============

I love my "Martinis With Mancini" CD, Vivaldi's Bassooon Concertos, and the Elvis Costello/Burt Bacharach collaboration - "Painted from Memory".

You people are weird.

Freebird
Green Grass and High Tides Forever
Can't You See
Amy
Dreams

and, of course Ramblin' Man:

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin'
And doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

Well my father was a gambler down in Georgia
But he wound up on the wrong end of a gun
And I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus
Rollin' down highway 41

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

I'm on my way to New Orleans this mornin'
Leavin' out of Nashville, Tennessee
They're always having a good time down on the bayou, Lord
Them Delta women think the world of me

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man

Where do you guys find the lyrics to songs? I mean, is their one website, or do you google each song?

In the past ten years, the only music I have become obsessive with has been:

Crash Test Dummies
Joan Osborne
My late brothers band
Sinead O'Connor
Seal
Alanis Morrisette

I still love to hear oldies from :
Guns N Roses

When I was half the age I am now, my obsessiveness was aimed at:
Whitesnake
Ozzy Osbourne
Yngwie Malmsteen

And since I watched "Walk the Line," some Johnny Cash songs have been re-running through my head over and over. I have had a fever and stomach flu, and Johnny's music doesn't help.

Maybe this should go in the misheard lyrics thread from a few weeks ago.

Hahahah. There's not much to explain.

Toccata et all appeals to my vampiric, megalomanic side, what with its "doodily-doodily doodily-doodily, BUM BUM BUM BUMMMM!

Then there's Ms Samone, with her scratchy French, singing the lines "Moi je t’offrirai/Des perles de pluie/Venues de pays/Ou il ne pleut pas" that make me shiver, feel empowered, and want to cry at once. I listen to that part of the song over and over, in fact -- 39 seconds into it, if you'd like to check it out yourself.

And then "My Hair Looks Fierce"... well, you can't beat a bitchy transexual when you're feeling sexy, which from time to time I do. Good song to get dressed to -- especially if you're going on a date, which I never am but think about.

Tada! Not too interesting, is it? Hahahah.

The first movement of Scheherazade.
The Best of You by the Foo Fighters.
Ants Marching by Dave Matthews Band.
Something's Always Wrong by Toad the Wet Sprocket.
Sweet Child of Mine by Guns n Roses.

That's all I can think of right now.
