Hi guys,

I've been asked to read something at a wedding. Problem is, I don't know what.

Have you come across a good text or poem, passage or anything that you feel is particularly good for a wedding?

Church wedding? Garden? Synagogue? What sort of people are they? What are their passions and interests?

ETA: I love a good wedding :)

It's not a religious wedding, and they are quite geeky 20-something's.

I think a lovely literary quote would be perfect.

Although it's not a religious wedding, I think this passage from Chapter 8 of The Song of Solomon is awesome:

Put me like a seal over your heart, Like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, Its flashes are flashes of fire...

Many waters cannot quench love, Nor will rivers overflow it.

In God I dwell, especially in Eugene OR
Sat Nam! (literally "Truth Name"--a Sikh greeting)

Agree with the Song of Solomon, my husband and I had a civil ceremony 41+ years ago, and we read passages from it to each other.

Another favorite for weddings is the section on Love from Khalil Gibran's The Prophet.

Another good one is Shakespeare sonnet, "Let us not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments."

May your reading and the wedding and the marriage go well!

Blessings,

Ask the couple if they have any suggestions. I haven't been involved with a ton of weddings, but usually the couple picks out the readings. If nothing else, get some guidance.
