I enjoyed his last collection of stories (My Father's Tears...). A master of the short form. I've never read any of his novels, though.

If you liked My father's Tears...

What first got me into Updike was his Early Stories collection. It's huge (850+ pages), but I just skimmed around until I found opening paragraphs that grabbed me. I found plenty, and after awhile I was hooked.

I first read Updike in high school, way back when. Liked him ever since. I read more "literary" novels then than I do now.

I'm going to pick up My Father's Tears. I'd like to get back into his writing.

I've read some of his stories in the New Yorker, but it would be nice to pick up another collection of them.
