I'm writing a story set in the UK (spanning from 2000-2013) timeframe where my male MC, a South African national of British descent immigrates to the UK to attend university. While there he decides to join the Territorial army via the parachute battalion (4 Para). How might he go about that? Could he attend OTC (officer training course) at uni and enter the reserves that way?

What might be some issues a student from South Africa who speaks English and Afrikaans face at university in England? Would educational equivalency be an issue, because from a Wikipedia article it seems like South Africa's educational system has had a bit of flux over the years.

Depends on which curriculum and exams they used in his SA school. There are British 'overseas' A levels that some schools in the Commonwealth use, or they could teach the International Baccaleaurate.
Do you want it to be a problem?

Which university? Which subject?

There is quite a range of standards for entrance depending on the course and the university.
