Thank you so much Lady Macbeth, Koelsong, L.Y. and Phael!! :)

Koelsong, it's a YA psychological thriller :).

And I have to say (800 or so posts later!) that I've learned so much from AW. How to write a query letter, how to workshop a manuscript, and--most of all--how to persist!! You all rock!!

Congrats! :D

01-28-2014, 09:48 PM
Woohoo congrats!

How much of those 5 years were you writing, editing, and looking for your agent?

01-28-2014, 10:06 PM
Thank you so much V.J. and jorodo!! :)

Jorodo, this is my fifth (completed) book. I queried all five, with varying degrees of success (no offers on the first four, but I began receiving revise and resubmit requests, which--IMO--meant I was getting closer). As for the writing and editing--let's just say it's a constant process! :)

01-29-2014, 12:02 AM
Congratulations! :partyguy:

01-29-2014, 04:51 AM
Ahh I see! That's very exciting and kudos for not giving up after the first 4!

01-29-2014, 05:40 AM
Thank you so much Netz!! :) And thanks again, jorodo--persistence is definitely key when it comes to writing! :).

01-29-2014, 09:49 AM
Congrats! You should be super proud and excited!

OMG! Ann!!!!!!!! I'm SCREAMING for joy!!!!! I sincerely know how hard you've worked on this, with us all hangin out in the Bewares section. You're such a huge supporter to everyone here on AW. You soooooooooooooooo deserve this in every way possible. I hope, hope this agent can connect you even further.

I'm SO excited for you and will be eager to hear your journey. Hope it will be a wonderful one!!!! Good Luck, girlie!!!!! YEaH, BABY!!!!! :hooray::hooray::partyguy:

Congratulations! Excellent news! :-)

02-01-2014, 12:29 AM
Thank you so much kenpochick!! :)

02-01-2014, 01:24 AM
Are you allowed to give us a premise of your WIP? Or is that super-secret confidential?

02-03-2014, 09:08 PM
Hi HobbitTon! I'd love to, but it's going through a pretty extensive revision at the moment, so the original premise may not reflect the end product :D.

02-05-2014, 09:34 PM
After the dust settles, maybe you could post the query letter that landed you the agent and, if you have the time/interest, what she asked you to revise + how you applied her suggestions...maybe?

02-05-2014, 10:27 PM
I'd be glad to, nocomposer! :). I think there used to be a thread for successful queries on AW (have to doublecheck) and once I'm a little more settled with revisions, I'll be happy to post! :D.

02-06-2014, 09:19 AM
That is wonderful news! Look at you go. :)

02-06-2014, 05:43 PM
Thank you so much AuroClair!! :) And congrats again on your book deal!! :D.

02-07-2014, 09:16 AM
Thank you, thank you. :Hug2:

I hope some day I can have an agent and do some of the true epics rolling around in the back of my mind. For now I am going to dabble in romance. I enjoy writing it, it is fun and has a huge market. I am finding it is a good way to get experience and see how it all works.

Maybe someday though... fantasy. Maybe YA. <3
YA or go all Game of Thrones with it.

02-07-2014, 11:14 PM
Yay!!!! What a great story of perseverance! I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful (and long and lucrative) relationship with your agent!

02-08-2014, 12:24 AM
Thank you so much ARoyce!! :)

And Auro, may I suggest a YA Game of Thrones? I'd be all over that puppy! :D.

02-08-2014, 04:10 AM
Yay! Congratulations :)
This makes me happy and completely motivated. For someone who's spent a few years writing and learning and trying to get to the point where I have something strong enough to land an agent, it's great to see that perseverance pays off!!

02-08-2014, 08:04 AM
hester, you are a genius!
What a great idea! :snoopy:

I will have to think about it more, but that is all a ways off. I have two adult series planned. But wow, you are making me feel motivated. I guess I can world build and do other things in preparation of it. But I think for that epic I will need an agent.

How do you even get an agent? A legit one anyway.

02-08-2014, 03:40 PM
Congratulations! I am so happy for you! That is such wonderful news.

02-09-2014, 07:09 AM
Thank you so much Racey and Mayfield!! :) And Auro, get cracking! :D. (I love to motivate!)

02-09-2014, 11:13 AM
I did feel motivated. But I know I am not in a position to write that epic... yet. So I wrote down the ideas that sprung up, bottled the feeling away and am refocusing on the book I already have plotted out and someone waiting on.

I have my first deadline at the end of next month and I am not going to hit it because I am such a newbie. I inquired and asked questions about an imprint directly to someone at the epub and they were all 'I want to see it! I am interested in looking at something like that in March for a June publication.' Please shoot me.

I got it all plotted out easy. The characters and everything are set. Each Chapter has its theme and flow written in. And it isn't that I haven't wanted to write, it is that time has gotten TIGHT. The first few months of the year aren't dead like previous years at work. They are worse than summer was. I don't know how that is possible. But there it is. I am working over time every week and I only have weekends to do anything not work related. Laundry etc. etc. takes up time and then I find that I don't have time to write like I need to.

This would also be the second book I am working on ever. So I don't have my system down. I just picked at my first book over the course of a year, lazily letting ideas spring to mind and writing them in fits of motivation and tangents of creativity. Not the way to seriously write books.

Any advice would be great. I have spent the last two weeks in edits for my first book. That has been another thing stopping me. My excitement over my first book and not knowing how it all ends up before starting my second.

02-09-2014, 03:50 PM
A little late to the party, but congratulations. :snoopy:

02-11-2014, 04:56 PM
Thank you so much heyjude!! :)

Auro, it sounds like you're definitely on the right track!! Don't worry about letting things percolate--I do that all the time. My methodology (if you can call it that, heh) is to "let loose" and just get all my thoughts down once I've got the basic plot structure in mind. I'm an inveterate pantser (although that may change, especially since one of the books I've been working on for a while is a "plot heavy" YA sci-fi :D). With fantasy, I'd think the outline is key, and it sounds like you're well on your way!!

And I totally sympathize on the time crunch--there just aren't enough hours in the day!

02-12-2014, 10:34 AM
I have come up with a plan! Wish me luck. :}

02-12-2014, 06:20 PM
Congratulations! :)

02-12-2014, 11:56 PM
Thank you so much Ambrosia!! :).

And good luck Auro!! :D.

02-24-2014, 11:16 AM
Thanks hester! I decided I should pour myself into my next book in the series already being published, instead of a one shot that might not get picked up. If people really like the first book and want more in that series I need to have more to give them! :}
