The more books I buy, the harder I look for first editions. Got a few James Michener titles I'm proud of (Mexico, Texas), one Ludlum hardback (Parsifal Mosaic), a Gore Vidal (Empire).

My most valuable is my copy of Stienbeck's "Winter of Our Discontent."

I'm sure I have more, but I haven't compiled a running list.

What about you? What are some of your favorite firsts/out-of-prints?

Ohh... I have tonnes of first editions, I think, on a technical level. Technical because they're all books released in the last decade that I bought when they first came out. Too many to list there, I think.

If we're only counting first editions that I specifically looked for as first editions when they've been out for a long time... Then I have only one.

The Long, Dark Tea-Time Of The Soul, by Douglas Adams. I'd love to get a first-edition signed copy of one of his books, but that's not happening anytime soon, I think.
