I'm looking for a translation of "Muslim" from English to Tagalog/Filipino.

All I can find online is "moro", which could be referring to the Moro people of the southern Philippines, who are Muslims. Other than that, I'm really striking out.

I'd be interested in strict translations, slang, and racial slurs too, if available (nice to know so I don't risk offending somebody).

Thanks.

My wife, who spent some time in the Philippines, says "moro" is it. Here's a translation website (http://tagalogphrases.com/tagalog-to-english/) that gives that answer as well.

"Moro" means--AFAIK--"all the Muslims of Mindanao"; various ethnic groups [e.g. Maguindanao, Maranao] identify themselves under the Moro umbrella.

However, in daily conversation people are much more likely to use "Muslim" than "Moro," both in reference to the Muslims of Mindanao and the Muslims of other countries.

"Muslim" has been adopted as a Filipino word with Filipinized pronunciation; you can hear the pronunciation (moose-LEEM) in these news clips:

(0:02 "mga kapatid nating Muslim" [our Muslim brothers & sisters])

(0:16 "mga kabataang Muslim at Kristiyano" [Muslim & Christian youths])

No one, AFAIK, would refer to a Muslim of another country as a Moro, and in my personal experience it's less likely for anyone to refer to a Filipino Muslim as a Moro and more likely for them to refer to him/her as Muslim.
