I made cranberry sauce from scratch (for the first time ever!) and have a roasted butternut squash soup (that is also a first time ever from scratch attempt!) simmering on the stove!

There will be turkey and stuff but I'm not making that until Friday night. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

My pie was delivered yesterday with my groceries. Although, I'll be roasting a chicken and baked potato today,

I'm doing the pumpkin pie when the dishwasher finishes its run. Kid Two is the pecan pie guy. The Kid will be prepping at least of the three veggies, and Mr. Maryn is my go-to mashed potato man. I'm turkey, stuffing, and rolls, which I baked yesterday.

Maryn, hoping against hope for a shot at the shower

Not where you last saw me.
I baked two pumpkin pies yesterday--1 for today and 1 to freeze for Christmas. As to the rest, it'll be the traditional stuff--turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, stuffing, candied yams, etc.

I am not allowed to cook. My sister does the pies, potatoes and the pork roast. My middle daughter does salads and sides.

We have dinner at our house in Great Bend. It is a huge old house. Yesterday Annie vacuumed and I dusted. Today I get to iron the tablecloth and then wash dishes--no dishwasher because the kitchen is too small. Once the dishes are washed I plan to drink a lot of wine and whip some ass at Scrabble. --s6

This is only the third time in 38 years that I am not hosting the horde. Thanksgiving has always been my holiday, with my family and an occassional stray.

My Dad got really bad Monday, so I called SIL and told her to work it out with her kids because I was just not up to having an additional 21 people in my house this week. Plus all the cooking. We moved Dad to assisted living yesterday. Hubby and I are having turkey dinner with him at the facility. The others are all going to a nephew's house. Maybe I'll take it back next year, and maybe it is time to start new traditions. Aunt Mary is getting old.

I took my pies out at 7:30 am - two apple, two pumpkin. At the rate they're being eaten, I'll have to make more on Saturday. For the first time in ages I'm not cooking the dinner - my brother decided to try out his culinary talents (so we may be having frozen pizza...).

AW. A very nice place!
... And what are you doing today, besides making house calls? :tongue

... went to a party. So no preparation required.
Had turkey and brown rice. Applesauce for desert.
Enjoyable repast. Thnx for the inquiry.
Am sure your own was as well :)

Now to tend to business ;-)

We made Death by Apple Pie. I didn't actually die, but if I had, I would have gone happy. :Sun:

Just saw this thread, Lavern!

I made pumpkin pie (great recipe, lots of ginger), focaccia-rosemary-wild rice dressing, cider-brined turkey, and homemade yeast rolls, plus the usual sides. Daughter made a lovely potato-squash gratin dish. (She's a vegetarian, so we always have lots of extra veggie sides.)

And the new recipes this year were appetizers: blue cheese-rosemary cheese sticks and then artichoke-spinach bites (think hot artichoke-spinach dip only served in a little pastry cup made of Pillsbury croissant rolls). They went fast.

Mary, very sorry to hear about your dad.

Oh, my niece brought us a pumpkin pie and a sweet potato pie. I don't think I'd ever had sweet potato pie; I didn't think it would be all that different from pumpkin but I *loved* it! Yummers!

(a little left I think but my hand whipped whipped cream is all gone, finished that off last night. :D )

Well, hmm. As it happens, there is a can of sweet potato puree in the cupboard that I would love to use up. Cause it is in the way, yanno.

And we did have leftover baked sweet potatoes from the meal. Though these are Japanese sweet potatoes and only lightly orange in color. I will have to get busy, I reckon.

in a day or two.

Puree?????

*Confiscates Kyla's cooking card*

Sweet Potato Pie is made from real sweet potatoes or yams, not from something outta a can, Girlfriend! :tongue
