Soooooo watching this movie. Yes, yes, yes. OMG. I just read about Dido Belle Lindsay... so I'm so watching it. I know it has a bit of minority pathological porn to it with the slavery talk, but it overturns other stereotypes that makes me watch it more.

Black woman shown as rich <3 YES!

Black woman shown as intelligent. Yes!

Black Woman shown as main protagonist in a movie that's not 100% black. (i.e. relegated tho "black movie")

Black woman in England in a time period where people stereotypically think the population was all white. Yes!

Servant class is shown and the real implications of that.

I get that it's still showing the main issue being slavery/abolition/racism, but I think enough of that is awesome and she was one awesome woman anyway.

Anyone else watching it?

I probably will write a review when I see it.

I'm just happy Gugu Mbatha-Raw is the freaking lead in a movie. She's an incredibly underrated actress.

Looks like an interesting movie with a good cast. The lead actress is radiant. When it comes out, I'll definitely watch it...and I don't really care for costume dramas to begin with. But this one seems worth it.

This looks like such an amazing film. I really want to know more about the woman it's based on now. *runs off to Google*

ETA: US release is for May 2014.

So. Far. Away.

I really want to see this too. Dido Belle was an inspiration for my WIP because one of my characters is a mixed race little girl growing up in the gentry class of England in 1800. In fact, my profile pic is a portrait of Dido and her cousin Elizabeth.

I LOVE costume dramas and heroines, so this definitely interests me! :) I love seeing diversity, too, of course. ;)

I just saw the preview for it while waiting to watch "12 Years A Slave", and my friends and I all said..."We have GOT to see that!" I can't wait...although I'll have to wait until May of freakin' next year!

I am going to try my best to watch. I am pretty tired of movies about Blacks set in that time frame.

But as ellio said, Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a great actress who I want to support.
