When referring to the titles of other works within a novel, do I use the same conventions that I would when writing non-fiction (underline/italicize book titles, set titles of poems in quotation marks)? Would song titles also be set in quotation marks? So,
She had bought Queechy, the newest book by Susan Warner, before they left Cleveland, but she hadn’t been able to read it on the train.
She knew the poem well; "A Red, Red Rose" was one of her favorites and she could recite it from memory.
In the next camp, a woman was singing “Oh! Susanna” and Liza resisted an urge to cover her ears.
