Hi AncientGear, have you had a search about online at historical ranks across the world? Wikipedia is a good starting point -- it lists military ranks through the ages. If you see a rank structure you like you can twist it into something original for your story.

I've also used non-military hierarchies before for societies where there's a mix of combat and non-combat roles, such as the European nobility hierarchy.

WoW's battleground ranks for the horde side is a great starting point if you need ideas.

Try using ranks from other languages. Look up German ranks, for instance, and see if that works.
