i am curious to know how much the writers here stick to one thing.

i certainly write mainly gay erotic romance although I have written gay erotica, straight erotic romance and non-erotic stuff.

I have noticed my main gay erotic romance readers *do not* seem to read my work outside that area, they show not interest at all!

So I would need to look at building a readership in each area? that sounds... tiring. Maybe I should just stick to what I do best :)

I write erotic poetry and prose.

I also write "regular" poetry and prose.

I love reading sci-fi and I've begun to dabble in it. I've done a bit of humorouse writing as well. Some short fiction, some flash (less than 100 words).

I write erotica aimed at different, ah, 'specialties.' Yeah, that's the word. The people who are into, say, margarine play will read all the margarine erotica I can produce, but they're not interested in reading my balsa wood material. It's just not their thing.

Erotica fans are interested in their own sexual practices and preferences, and that's what they want to read about. No matter how good you are, and how well you understand multiple types of erotica, you can't usually turn a margarine reader into a balsa wood fan.

Although you can tie bondage or spanking to a host of other specialties.

Maryn, who had fun coming up with silly examples

You'd better pick the balsa, because I've got the best margarine play fiction out there and I will brook no competitors!
