Inspired by the Poet seeks free-verse poetry that emulates poems written by U.S. Poet Laureates of the last 25 years, or other contemporary poets who write in a similar style.

Inspired by the Poet is a free journal. We do not charge a fee to readers, and we do not pay contributors. This is an opportunity for exposure of your work. When your poem is selected, we include a link to your Web site or social media page. You may also add one link to your published work at an online bookstore. As a startup, we have a small audience now, but we'll work at growing our readership to increase your exposure as we add new poems.

To emulate is to create an original work, of similar caliber and structure, by using an existing poem as a model. Emulation is not paraphrasing, which is simple imitation involving the substitution words. It is not parody, which is a humorous play on the original words. Nor is it a poem about the poet who inspired you. And it is not written in in a different style, shape or form. Please see the examples and exercises on the site for further clarification.

Guidelines for submission are also available at the site (http://www.inspiredbythepoet.com/submissions.html), along with details explaining our who, what, when, where, how and why.

We hope you like our concept, and we look forward to your participation. Please spread the word if you know poets of any age who might appreciate this opportunity.
