Author's Guild has changed its membership requirements to accept self published authors who have made enough money in a short enough period of time.

http://www.authorsguild.org/members/guild-membership-eligibility/

Regular Membership. You may qualify as an author published by an established U.S. book publisher, as a freelance writer published by periodicals of general circulation in the U.S., or as a book author or freelance writer earning writing income, which may include income from self-published works, of at least $5,000 in an 18-month period:

I really need to do some research into memberships like this. Apparently SFWA are considering letting in self-published authors as well. There was a thread about it on Kboards but I think it's very early stages.

Thanks for the heads-up!

mmm, but given how SFWA has been lately, I'm not sure I'd want to be a member. Maybe the current president can get it back on track.

Yeahhh, I've not read much about it, but I would want to find out what's going on if I was going to join. But then considering it's Science Fiction Writers of America, I probably won't be anyway!
