Kirkus review?

For those of you that have done self-publishing (as I plan to), have you gotten reviews of your book done before publishing? Did you use Kirkus reviews?

I am trying to work out some of the finer details as I work towards publishing, and I'm wondering if Kirkus is a good idea.

I think it's a terrible idea. They charge a fortune, and their paid reviews have zero credibility. There are better uses for that $400 or so.

I assume you mean Kirkus "Indie" reviews. Not only are they expensive, they have limited exposure.

Yeah, don't do it! Send your book out to bloggers or connect with reviewers via Goodreads for free.
