Hi there, guys, I'd like to know what kind of uniform did the Royal Air Force members wear during World War Two. More to the point, I need the uniform of the crew of an Avro Lancaster. Ever just a couple of pics are enough.

useumIf you go to google images and put in "WWII RAF uniforms Avro Lancaster" you'll get some pics of me in uniform. If you put in WWII RAF uniforms you'll get a whole lot of pics of men in uniform. How much detail do you need? That is colour, insignia, rank? The RAF Museum http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/ and/or the Imperial War Museum - can probably help.

I did Google it before opening this thread but I only find pics of the upper part, the jacket so to say. I need the full gear of a pilot who would sit inside of a Lancaster, from head to toes.

I'll check out the Museums.

In dress uniform or flight gear?

Uhm... flight gear.

I'm sure Osprey has a book covering this. They make picture books detailing the uniforms and gear of pretty much every fighting force in world history.

Imma check that out as well. Thanks, Treb.

As for the book, I only need infos for one scene so I think the data I can find on the internet is more than enough. I don't need to go too deep with the description, just to depict the plane and its crew.

Just a heads up from a military aviation buff.

Even if just one scene, do at least a little research on how a crew would interact inside the plane during a mission. Their was a class divide between officers and enlisted in British service, but on the other hand flight crews tended to be closer then other types of units. Just do a little digging to figure out how they'd address each other, how they'd use the internal comm system, and that sort of thing.

For instance, would the navigator say, "Navigator to pilot, we're 10 miles from the target," "Captain, we're approaching the target". Would the other crew members ID themselves by their positions in the plane or by name, etc?

Thanks, Treb, but I don't really need that that much. I mean, the plane will never fly and most of the crew will be dead way before even needing to interact on-screen.
