Chapter Three
Betrayal.

Eldentho had awoken suddenly, but how long had it been? He couldn’t decide whether he had been laying there for a few seconds or a few hours. He felt a cold drop of sweat run down his neck, why was he sweating? It was extremely cold in his rooms cold that he began to question it.

That’s when he felt the first hit; a massive shudder resonated throughout his room. It felt like it was only passing by as it continued passed his house and onwards towards the cliffs of Agoon. Everything stood still, was it just an earthquake?

Just a small earthquake, completely normal – Eldentho thought to himself.

The second hit was much stronger than the first, so strong that it actually threw Eldentho off his bed and onto the floor. Nearly all of his books were flung off his bookcase, his favorite “The Complete Encyclopedia of Valador” landed right next to Eldentho’s head. He grasped the book tightly awaiting the next earthquake. When the third one hit it managed to knock all of his Casters Ignor, the substance sorcerers use to conjure magic, on to the floor. It started to burn through the thin floorboards, luckily he didn’t have that much. He struggled to get to his feet, his favorite book in hand, once up he walked carefully over to the window to see what was going on.

What he saw did not lighten his mood, massive chunks of earth raining down upon Sunshine Island. Each droplet bigger than the last. It was earthquakes; it was the impact of these rocks causing the shudders. He could see many of the village people running around banging on peoples doors trying to get them to flee with them.

He had to help, but he also had to escape the island. There wasn’t much time to think, he grabbed his brown leather rucksack and shoved his encyclopedia inside along with any food and un-broken bottles of caster ignor he could find. Rushing down the stairs he found himself at the front door, turning to look at the house one last time before he stepped through the door and shut it behind him, closed.

There was panic, panic everywhere. Women and children that Eldentho recognized, that he would see everyday running about screaming for help. He could hear the town leader, the Agoorest, telling people to head for the bridge. Eldentho hadn’t seen Bliss or Zey fleeing; he thought they must be looking for the Old one. Another piece of earth hit, only seven meters from where Eldentho was walking. It threw him up into the air and into the side of one of the cabins. He was only unconscious for a few minuets but when he came too Bliss was standing over him.
“Come on Eld! Get up we gotta get moving” said Bliss.
She pulled him up forcefully, dragging him, as he couldn’t find his footing, still nearly unconscious. He could see Zey standing about five feet away using protective magica to hold some of the pieces of earth in the air, almost in stasis.

“Bliss! Take Eldentho and yourself to the bridge, I’ll hold this for as long as I can"

Thanks for reading, I know its not exactly a lot and is not the full chapter but its all I can really upload at the moment.

W1S1 is not an appropriate place to post material for critique -- that's what Show Your Work is for. You need a minimum 50 posts to post there, which is our way of trying to get new people to interact and become part of the community. You'd know this if you'd read the Newbie FAQ, which I strongly suggest you go do now. Many people get to the 50 post mark by critiquing other people's work, which is a good way for people to get to know you.

If you'd like to hang out in W1S1 and talk to us about your writing goals, you're more than welcome.
