OK, folks, I've squashed the Love Battles (sorry to be a killjoy), but I still like what My-Immortal was trying to do, so I have another thought on showin' the love.

Anyone can name another person on this board King/Queen of the Day. Just post here to say who you're electing and why, and let the fawning begin! Everyone else can join in to say why they appreciate that member, and the royal member gets to make royal decrees and stuff. :)

So!

Today I elect Sean D. Schaffer King for the Day because he always makes me smile, and he always has a kind word for everyone he encounters.

:e2crown:

Thanks, King Sean!

--
EDITED: The royal reigns were moving too swiftly for us to keep up, so now we've decided to have Royalty for the Week instead of Royalty for the Day. And the tradition is for the current king or queen to name a successor.

Kinda short reign ol' Sean is getting, since he didn't ascend the royal folding-chair (soon-to-be-made-of-solid-gold-and-look-very-throne-like) until after 7:00 pm.

And Sean doesn't strike me so much as 'kingly' as so obviously 'princely'...

I hereby suspend your tributary payments for a fortnight, Sean, in honor of your kingship. (I get to do that, because I'm an emperor)

You do have a point. Perhaps the person who elects tomorrow's Royalty of the Day would be kind enough to do it in the afternoon, so as not to give Sean too short a reign. ;) He may need time to figure out what he wants from his royal servants...

Usurping all others, I elect Rachel (Celia Cyanide) Queen For a Day. And once she is in power, may she maintain her throne with a ruthless (and sexy) mein! And if her uppity Catholic sister, Mary tries to dethrone her...well, to the Tower with thee!

Now, the only question is, do I get to be:

1) Robert Dudley (yeah, yeah yeah)

2) Sir Walsingham

3) Sir William Cecil

4) Mary of Guise,

5) Duc d'Angou (please God, no!)

all according to the film, Elizabeth?

:) Yeah, yeah, but all kings must have their (platonic) queens. I'm just saying, at the end of the day, only one of them is going to step down, and if anybody else steps up, it's time for a most queenly throwdown;)

I'm honoured, oh-so-deserving and...um...oh yeah, humbled. ;)

I hereby proclaim that cholesterol is now good for you and that fried perogies, smothered with butter and sour cream is AW's Official Food.

Henceforth, hangovers are banned, the work week will be 11 hours long, editors can only say "I love it! Here's a cheque. You fill in the amount." and all female AW members over the age of 18 have to gimme a kiss. Those over the age of 30 shall permit a discreet bum-pat.

The task of selecting a successor is an onerous one. I must ponder it carefully for at least a couple of hours in order to milk this thing for all it's worth.

Alas, or Al's *ss, whatever ... my reign has come to an end. No, not that end, though images of sigmoidoscopies do come unbidden to mind.

No, it is time for me to pass the crown to someone equally worthy to wear it ... I know, under that criteria you have no idea why it took me so long to find someone.

So far we have been led by:
King Sean the First
Queen Reph the Flattened
King Robeiae the Eclectic
Queen Arrowqueen the Ennobler
King Frank the Fish Whisperer
and -- King Charles the UnASSuming
I believe it is time for the one who started it all to wear the regalia. Yes, I pass the crown to:

Queen Jenna the Bounteous!

She has given us all so much, and all she asks in return is our never-ending fealty and obeisance. Not much to ask, is it?

Your Majesty, Beloved Queen Jenna,

I was not about to wait another minute to pay my homage to you. When I came here, many months ago, I was lost and worn out, and trying to find hope for the future. You have created such a loving community of people that I became invigorated with a vision of a future that seemed possible. Since that time, God has handed me challenges I never thought would really happen, and I needed to take some time away, but I never, ever forgot the kindness shown to me by you, and by others, in this remarkable place. This place is remarkable because of the example of love and kindness, wisdom and generosity, courage and grace which you model each day. Thank you for being you, and for giving me a higher vision to aspire to, and for giving me the strength to return. Never forget that you make a difference in people's lives every single day.

Three cheers for Queen Jenna!
Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!

Oh, man, now I feel like a butthead for not making it on time to hail Kings Frank and Charles! Two of my favoritest men ever! I shall give my delayed fawning anyway...

Frank: Works very hard to keep my head glued on straight behind the scenes. Whenever I have a case of the freak-outs, I know Frank is going to say something smart and soothing and brotherly. An excellent supermoderator, he's not afraid to make tough decisions or to say what needs to be said. And he writes a great humor column, which even my mom subscribes to.

Frank, I will bait your royal hook with the bloodiest of bloodworms.

Charlie: Is there anyone more lovable in the world? This is a man with a huge heart, always ready and willing to lend a hand to his fellow writers, celebrate their successes, and cheer them on. He is honest and unpretentious, a terrific administrator, and a great writer.

Charlie, I will search to the ends of the earth to find you another pair of those Rocker Pants.

Now, as for my royal decrees...

-All stores of all sorts in the kingdom shall now be open 24 hours a day.

-Massages, facials, manicures, and pedicures will be covered under all health insurance plans.

-Writer's block shall be banished.

-The royal bathrooms shall be cleaned with a toothbrush... by James Frey

-The royal poolboy shall be Orlando Bloom

-Minimum wage for writers shall be $2 per word

I agree that the reigns are moving too fast for people to catch up, so howzabout we have Royalty for a Week from now on? I'll change the first post. That'll give us time for some really good fawning and decrees an' stuff. :)

Let's aim to name a new king or queen each Saturday.
That said, I hereby name SHERRI234 as the Queen of the Week! Sherri, whose name is actually Susie (I can change your username if you like, you know ;) ), is one of the sweetest darn people anywhere. She hangs out in the greeting card room most, but I'm sure you've met her around the rest of the board, too. She is relentlessly positive and optimistic, and loves to encourage people and celebrate their successes. She's one of those people who can make you smile just by seeing her screen name on a thread. So, Susie, enjoy your reign!

:e2crown:

I second that. Susie is one of the sweetest, kindest and helpful people I know. I know her through emails outside of the Water Cooler and she's REALLY been an inspiration to me. I love her and am happy to call her my friend. Even though we have YET to meet even after all this time!! :)

A BELATED hail to good Queen Susie!

And....

More late oblations to....

King Sean, Queen Reph, King robieae, Queen AQ, King Eraser, King CC, and of course Queen Jenna, a queen in REAL life!!! :Hug2:

Queen Susie - what a wonderful choice. It never ceases to amaze me but that whenever I'm feeling particularly glum I hit the "user cp" button to check out my subscriptions and notice that, by gosh, "sherri234" has left another wonderfully sweet and uplifting rep comment. It's practically psychic. For that and so much more, I thank you, Queen Susie!

Hi, all,

My happy reign
Is coming to an end.
Another great king or great queen
Is just around the bend.
I know you'll treat them
So extra nice.
I wouldn't trade you all
At any price.
Thanks so much
You brighten my life
And take away
My troubles and strife!

My last decree is for everyone to still party hearty and have a great weekend. Thanks so much!

The Reign of good Queen Susie, may it be
A blessed one, a grand reign, sweet and cheerful
The finest of all things come round to thee
The best of all for Susie, may it be!
A sweeter Queen of this board there shan't be
All others try to emulate this Queen
Her cheerfulness, her grace, her kindness is
One-of-a-kind, a mighty spring of Life
For all who live under the reign of this
Queen Susie, there be few around like thee
We celebrate your reign, and see the grace
Of one who does deserve it well thou be
Queen Susie, good Queen Susie, we thank thee
The Royalty should emulate thy ways.

Susie,

I guess Jenna's not around this week, or she hasn't looked at this thread. Either way, I guess it's up to you to choose.

Might I suggest writing out all the names on little slips of paper, putting them in a box or bowl or hat or something, and drawing one?

Those who aren't chosen won't be offended, I promise. We love you, and you'll always be the queen of hearts in my book.

Susie

The new queen and without further ado is Queen Yeshanu. She is always so sweet and helpful and definitely deserves to be Queen for the week. I decided to choose and not to put it in a hat since that's kind of impersonal. Congrats Queen Yeshanu. I know you'll reign supremely because you are kind and gentle. :Hail:

'Scuse me for a minute, my eyes are misting up a bit.

Thanks so much to everyone, but special thanks to Susie, who is one of the nicest people I've ever met, on-line or off.

Um, okay. My first command is...

Go look in the mirror, and give a big smile to the person you meet there. Then take your smile out and go share it with someone who doesn't have one today.

Oh, yeah. The order to party is still in effect.

And Frank? Genuflecting is fine. I don't want any prostates anyhow. Wouldn't know what to do with one.
