J.J. Cale, whose songs became hits for the likes of Eric Clapton and Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died at age 74 from a heart attack, his management agency's website announced.

One of the great songwriters, whose songs were not only covered by the greats, but by about every bar band that ever was.

His laid back style and groove were a revelation in the early 70s to fans who were used to hard drive rock. One of my biggest musical influences, personally.

His 1972 debut album, Naturally, was in the record collection of every musician I knew.
