Can anyone suggest terms of endearment that may have been used in the early 1910s between male friends.

In context: "Hey James be a *TofE* and pass my hat would you?"

As a female today I'd say something like "Hey Julie, be a [love/doll/darling] and pass my hat, cheers."

In the UK.
Not London. Small town/large village.
Middle class -- not able to live off interest on existing money but working white collar (probably within a law firm or in a financial position -- not entirely sure as yet).

Family background? Was he the first in his family to go to university? His dad's job?
