People have frequently suggested that we start a board for grammar questions, and our mods finally talked me into it. Thanks so much to Lady Julia for offering to lead it!

If you have grammar questions, here's the board for you. Enjoy!

Yes indeed, many thanks to Julia for volunteering to mod this new forum. She's got what it takes to break up the inevitable syntax-instigated brawl. (We all know that's how most bar fights begin.

Have at 'er, gang!

Cool, Jenna.

I'm no reph--nor a lot of other highly competent people--but I hope to be able to contribute what I do know.

dlcharles, could you expand upon your question, maybe in a new thread so it'd find-able in the future? I don't quite understand what you're asking.

Etymologists, lexicographers and prescriptive grammarians rule, OK?

How cool is it that, finally, writers of a scholarly/pedantic disposition have a board of their own to discuss, for example, the merits or otherwise of a humble comma in a specific context.

The only drawback is that, according to popular perception, preoccupation with such matters makes us the kind of people that even other nerds won't talk to.

Now, please excuse me while I dash out to buy a set of buck teeth, a pair of coke-bottle specs, and some stick-on pimples.

Cool! I look forward to posting....oh, this is my third post. Um, carry on.

Thanks, Jenna and Julia, for putting this board up. I know it'll get a lot of use.

Other nerds won't talk to us?
This is a complaint?? :)

I think it's not only terribly informative, in a street brawl sort of way, but it's also incidentally a great view of the whispers in the back of the room while the teacher is pontificating on the esoteric value of the gerund. Yes, Teach, this IS what we are whispering about!!

Enlightening, and entertaining. Educational? Mayhaps.
