A friend and I are publishing a series of anthologies from a shared world endeavor, Children of the Vortex. We originally published them back in the day as a sort of club endeavor. Now, we're taking some of these stories to the public and we're a little uncertain if we're introducing the world correctly 'cause we've known it for about a decade. The world is original, not fan fic of any kind (though we do riff off a historical time period).
So, we are looking for a few readers who would be willing to take a look at the opening stories and tell us if you can follow what's going on and if the world is introduced well. We THINK we're getting it right, but we'd like someone who has never read the world book to take a gander at it.
We are not looking for line editing or general story commentary--just whether or not the world makes sense. (Though if the story gets a serious reaction from you--good or bad--we'd like to hear it.)
The stories themselves range from 6K to 24K. Stories include drama, romance, humor, and some darker topics. They are all adult stories, and some stories include very adult themes (violence, not sexual). At present, we have 5 stories ready for reading.
No, you don't have to agree to read everything, but if you could, that would be wonderful!
In exchange, we would be willing to comment on short stories or beginning chapters (Fantasy preferred, but SF works too), if you'd like.
