A terrific and exciting game. I had no real dog in the match, but I was glad to see Wigan, facing relegation, pull this one off.

American soccer haters, however, (of which there are still many) will simply note in the sports news the existence of another boring 1-0 football match.

Now if Wigan could just do us Norwich fans a big favour and go the fuck down...

Ah well... the arrogance of ignorance! LOL!

I am so, so, so happy with the result. Hate City. Haaaaaaaaaate City.

*drools all over thread*

'Course it's gonna be really weird if Wigan ends up getting demoted. Has that ever happened before? A club wins the FA Cup and gets demoted in the same season?

Oh yeah, it's happened a few times, I think. Middlesborough was the last one but I can't remember the year.

ETA: I found out today that it hasn't happened yet. Boro are one of five clubs that were in the final and then went down but they all lost.

You must be feeling happy today!

Obviously when I said I wanted Wigan to 'go the fuck down' what I actually meant was I hope they put on similar displays of pluck and daring in winning their last two games and relegating either Paolo di Canio or Paul Lambert.

Well done Wigan. First time for ages that one of the 'big name' clubs hasn't won the trophy and that is good for football.

And so goodbye to Wigan
The laugh you gave was a big 'un
You went and won the cup
Next year you'll play Bournemouth when they come up.

First club to do it, though. One more for the very slim Wigan record book. LOL!

We got relegated in 1985 after beating Sunderland in the League Cup and finishing our season three games before Coventry. Who needed three wins and got them, partly thanks to champions Everton sending out their youth squad in the final game.

Not that I'm still bitter about it or anything.

Noooo... can tell you're not bitter.

Although I sympathise. My boys beat Arsenal in the League Cup final and went down. Although we didn't know we would at the time. Very mixed year, that one.
