View Full Version : re-query after a complete rework?

I've completely reworked my novel. It is shorter (yay!) and renamed.

Several agents/agencies on my dream list rejected the earlier version - justifiably.

AWers and visiting agents, should I resubmit? I believe in my work, and want to contact agents who would be a fit.

Is that appropriate or more of a PITA (pain in the ass)? Thanks.

Sat Nam! (literally "Truth Name"--a Sikh greeting)

Unless the agency website specifically says not to resubmit, you may do so, if the revision is thorough.

I wouldn't requery if you were only recently rejected. Wait six months to a year before you send it out to those same agents again.

I agree with Old Hack and Siri. Unless there's something specifically saying not to, it's fine if:

1. The revisions are significant. Not grammar cleanup or just word cutting, but plot changes, etc.

2. It's been at least six months. A year might be even better.

I'd also suggest reworking the query. If it didn't get a lot of bites last time, something like a reduced word count is unlikely to improve your stats much. Spend some time in QLH. Good luck!
