I like the idea in that it breeds other ideas. : ) In my current WIP I did your second prompt in that I took a Celtic Goddess that was little known, took the things attributed to her and added a few of my own while expanding on the ones I knew. It worked out really well except some celtic professor somewhere might read the book (Ihope) and be like that isn't how it was.... O well. You can't please everyone.

I hope you'll get to read the sucker in print, but I can copy the "Legend" I wrote and email it to you. Since I practice alot of elemental magick myself, my MC uses elemental magick in her "faerie magic" tee hee. Witches everywhere will get it, but the gen pub will be like "those faeries...."
