We've had two dogs for years now and we were quite happy beig dog people. We had a cat, who we gave to my mom when her cat died so she wouldn't be alone. She has since passed on.

So we thought our life was complete with a Dalmatian mix and jack Russell mix. I mean, two hyperactive trouble-making dogs. What more would you want?

I guess the answer was another cat. My wife expressed the sentiment. I don't know why it came up. So we started looking at pet finder. Both dogs are rescue, the late cat was a rescue, might as well continue rescuing.

So we found this gorgeous white cat with green eyes. I emailed the woman fostering the cat and she was going to be at a Petsmart with the rest cats the shelter handles on Saturday. Ok. We'll go and look. No guarantees. We're just window shopping for a cat, right?

That's what I told my youngest son anyway when we went there so he wouldn't get his hopes up.

Anyway, the white female cat was abused by small children. We knew that going in. We like broken pets. My dal is deaf in one ear and the Jack was Lso abused before becoming a stray.

So we met the cat. Did I say gorgeous? And she seemed friendly enough. Purring and letting us pet her. I picked her up. She was fine. I passed her to my wife. She was fine. She passed the cat back and I must have held her wrong and suddenly its psycho cat, clawing, moaning and spitting.

The lady came in and said she gets that way from time to time and you just have to let her calm down. So we let her calm down. In the meantime, my son is looking at the other cats and falls for this male grey tiger striped cat. We take him into a room and he's just Mr. Social.

Now what? The other cat is still on psycho-mode but she really is gorgeous. And Kurt really wants the male. And we already have 2 dogs.

What to do? What would you do?

Of course, bought them both and brought them home.

Psycho-cat hides and moans, hissing at the dogs AND the male cat. Although if you catch her at just the right moment, she'll let you pet her and she acts like a friendly love-starved cat. So we've named her Moana Lisa.

The male cat (Timothy, Tom, Joe, Joel--depending on the whim of Kurt) is the opposite. He's taken to the dogs. The dogs have taken to him--the Jack will paw at him to get him to play and when the Dal comes over he'll bang his head against the dog's snout to rub his cheeks against him.

So I guess I'm not just a dog person (or ferret) now, I'm a PET person.

Rescuing pets two at a time.

Awww.... I had a Tuxedo cat called Spud. Dad rescued a tiny black cat called Sheesh. After spending a month or two under my parents bed, only coming out to use the litter tray, eat and terrorise any strangers who happened to be around she saw how Spud was with people. She saw how he was petted, played with and just fussed over. She started to copy him and ended up the most wonderful of moggies. Hopefully your white cat will see how the other behaves and be able to turn herself around. I hope you have good times with them and the dogs.

Mr. Ferret, sir: We demand photos! 400 x 400 limit, if you please, but come on, let's see 'em.

Maryn, who has no pets at all, sniff!

Deceitful little creatures, sneaking home with you like that :D

Most of mine have been rescues. The only ones who haven't been were the Rat Terrier I got when I was three and my Filas.

Tallulah, the APBT, managed to come how with me from a trip to the vet's office to pick up a bag of EVO for Kharma and Bimmer. She was a foster.

Right. Sneaky little bitch <3

Awww...

I'm not a cat owner--terribly allergic and neither my JRT nor my Border Terrier would EVER allow a cat to cross our threshold--but I can totally see why you couldn't leave Moana Lisa behind! She's gorgeous! And Joel is handsome, as well. I like the white cheeks. Congrats to you guys for bringing them home. They're as lucky as you are!

I love cats! I have five of them. Four boys and a girl. The girl is polydactyl.

I don't see why her religion should even matter.

Awwww! Joel reminds me of my Gomez. I found him under the hood of a car on the Chevy dealership, about four weeks old, scared and hungry . . . and LOUD :) I had him for about 17 years <3

So I guess I'm not just a dog person (or ferret) now, I'm a PET person. Um. Um. Can I use that line as an amazingly-off-topic segue?

Because I LOVE this story, and the picture, even if I feel sorry for the ferrets:

Man buys toy poodles only to discover they're really ferrets on steroids. (http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/ferret-poodle-argentina-125901615.html)

Again, I feel really sorry for the animals--but don't they have the cutest little fluffy-poodle hairdo?

We actually had a white ferret named Snowball.

Our Snowball wasn't quite that fat. :D

Oh, fun! My teenaged son had claimed the basement as his man cave years ago and spends most of him time down there playing video games (on my rather expensive 5.1 sound system that I never get to listen to any more). He isn't much of a pet person. Moana has also laid claim to the basement because its quiet and away from all household activity. So now she has decided since he's down there, he is hers. So she sits on him, rubs against him, climbs over him, tries to get him to pet her, while he's trying to play video games.

It's very amusing.

I guess my sons were telling grandma about the cats and the teen said, about Moana, that she has pretty green eyes. So despite his complaining about her and his supposed disinterest, it would seem its all just a tough front and that he really likes her.

Huh. Since we haven't had a cat for a few years and even then, she wasn't a super-active cat, I'd forgotten how inquisitive and dangerous an athletic cat can be to delicate collectibles you thought were safely set on a shelf.

Guess I need to get a spray bottle (unless there are other ideas) to discourage them from jumping onto areas where we keep our knickknacks.
