Any linguists in the house?

So filial is of the relationship between parents and children
Fraternal/brotherly is between brothers
Sororal/sisterly is between sisters.

What the heck is it when it's between siblings of both genders? While fraternal is used for non identical twins of both gender, it seems too....masculine. Especially given the ways this particular group of people interact.

Any ideas?

If we're making up words, it gets ever so much easier. Siblial! Siblistic? Siblingial? Siblate? Siblime? Siblemon?

Yes, but what's the adjectival of that noun? Therein lies my problem. Because siblingal looks silly.

ETA: Siblial...now perhaps I can work with that....

What I'm saying is, maybe the adjectival form is just 'sibling'? "Sibling rivalry" would seem to be adjectival, as you would want to say "fraternal rivalry" rather than "brother rivalry"?

Hmm perhaps so.

It just sounds a bit weird....(I mean I'd say brotherly rivalry, using the adjective form rather than the noun form. Fraternal is already an adjective, not a noun.) Also, usually the dictionary mentions is it can be used as a noun and an adjective.

There's consanguineal (related by blood) but it's not specific to siblings - plus it's a mouthful. I'd just go with sibling myself. Everybody knows what that means.

Grease is the word. :D Oops! Sorry!

Actually cognate is pretty good, though sibling would do, possibly, depending how you're using it.

I think "sibling" is the adjective as well as the noun.

And looking at that led me to cognate, which may be perfect.

Thanks!

Actually, I looked it up. The word is sib.

Further constructs may be built from it: sibwise, sibward, etc.

I've seen both filial and familial used in similar contexts (re: siblings) and it did not necessarily engender confusion for the reader. As is often the case, context may be the key.

Kewl.

Familial has also been suggested and I think it might fit the best

Thanks all! This has been driving me nuts all afternoon....
