This may sound like a silly question, but here goes:

I'm still working on perfecting my writing, so I have never published anything yet. When I finally finish a novel to my satisfaction, I'd like to get it published somehow (though I don't know how long that'll be). I was wondering, how exactly does one go about finding an agent? Also, if you wanted to publish a short story, you really wouldn't need an agent, right? Do you just submit a short story to various magazines, etc., to try to get it published? I don't think I'm looking to get published any time soon or anything, as my writing needs enormous improvement before I do so, I think; I just want to know for future reference. Thanks ahead of time!

Oops, just realized I'm in the short story forum, . . . it can be moved to the novel-writing forum or whatever forum it really belongs in, if this is a bad place for it.

Home - but for how long?
Publishing Short Stories.

Yes, when you have written, rewritten and edited a story to your and your crit readers' satisfaction then you submit it to the fiction editor of a magazine or journal.
