Steve Rushin this week's Sports Illustrated, on the baseball fan's having to wait through the winter doldrums:

"It's true in Detroit and Cleveland... and anywhere else that a tarp is drawn across a baseball field like a corner's sheet."

As a baseball nut who's spent far too much time in Toledo, OH (about equi-distant between Detroit and Cleveland), I'd have to say it's apt for Cleveland. But Detroit? That tarp's more like a holland cover, I hope!

(Seriously, though, Dennis, it is an excellent simile. Does a great job of creating an unique visual. Thanks for posting it. Goes to show how special a simile can be if given a little thought.)

Raised in Cleveland, all I have to say is: Testify!

Beautiful simile, though I too am guessing there's a typo and corner was meant to be coroner. Thanks for sharing it!
