Sad day for baseball, but two great people of the game who lived long and honored lives.
Musial was one of the great gentlemen of the game, loved by everybody, teammates and foes alike. Willie Mays has paid an excellent tribute to him, acknowledging his support in All-Star games, of which the two played many together, and his support of racial equality as well. And Musial never made a big deal of any of that sort of stuff. He was rarely interviewed, and liked his quiet privacy when his career ended. Great man, by any standard.
And St. Peter would probably tell Weaver to have his hitter bunt. As a manager, Weaver, the advocate of pitching, defense and three-run homers, famously hated to do that. It probably helped that he had the players capable of pitching, defense and three-run homers (Jim Palmer, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell, etc.) to work with.
