First of all, let me just express my profound appreciation for everyone's participation. There were some amazing stories, and I'm a little in awe of all of you.

Well done!

Second, we had a really terrific level of voter participation, too -- so my thanks to all of you who took the time to send me your votes. You're what makes this process work.

Third, I know everyone is on tenterhooks waiting for the results -- and they were VERY close. Fewer than five votes separated the first, second, and third place winners (you guys had me scared we were going to be looking at three and four and five-way ties, frankly) -- so, finally, after much hooplah and an excruciating wait:

FIRST PLACE -- "The Antichrist" (by Manuel Royal)

SECOND PLACE -- "Games" (by Quicklime)

THIRD PLACE -- "Guilty" (by sydneyd)

Congratulations, all of you. And thanks again!

If you're willing to let AW post and host your stories on our front page, I'd love to do so -- if, however, you'd prefer to hold off on that, and submit elsewhere in hopes of a second paycheck? That's okay too. Let me know what you'd like to do, okay?

thanks Mac...and you can absolutely post it

out of curiosity, would you mind telling us how many voters there were in total, and/or how many votes the winner got?

106 people voted, total. Everyone got three votes, each. I kept the votes in a spreadsheet for the first week or so (then I got overwhelmed and behind, and that's what took me so long to get the results posted.)

The winner got 36 votes, second place got 35 votes, third place got 32 votes. The rest of the votes were divided up between pretty much ALL the other stories, including a three-way fourth place tie at 29 votes each.

In terms of the views per thread, not every user-group shows up on those views, btw. :)

Mac, thanks for hosting this contest. A real challenge, a lot of fun, and I think it enhances the sense of community at AW. I'm proud to be among such a company of enthusiastic writers.

And, you bet, I'd be proud to have my piece posted publicly at Absolute Write.

I know I had a hard time voting. Not just apples and oranges, but a whole basket of mixed fruit. (Some of that fruit was pretty strange, too!)

Oh my goodness I am shocked, there were a lot of great stories up there! Congrats to Manuelroyal and quicklime, and to everyone! I'd love to gush more but I'm on my phone and my thumbs are chubby. I'd also be honored to be put on the site!

Congratulations to the winners! Well done!

Also, thanks to Mac and everyone at AW who made the thing possible. Even if you just took the time to read and vote, you're doing everyone a service. Healthy competitions like this keep the juices flowing.

Congrats to winners, it was fun participating. I don't mind my story being public.
