Please tell me your favorites. I'm talkin' big laughs, hard laughs, loud laughs, long laughs...none of that "delightfully witty" stuff, OK?

Hands down, my first choice is "Animal House". I watched this at a drive-in theater when it came out in 1978, and I can still feel the laughter!

First and second runners-up are probably "Big Trouble In Little China", and Woody Allen's "Bananas". Sooooo freekin' funny, both of 'em.

Funny (yuk-yuk), there hasn't been a comedy I've adored in a long time.

Maryn, no longer anybody's target audience

Also, Bruce Almighty is worth watching just for that one on-air scene with Steve Carell.

Jim Carey's a funny guy. He's also a good dramatic actor, like Robin Wms can do both.

Carey in Cable Guy and Liar Liar made me laugh out loud.

Free Enterprise (not a hilarious movie, but with a few very funny moments)
Bad Santa

^^^ Yes!!

Tootsie was laugh-out-loud funny.

And for satire, gross-out humour, and pure adult fun, try Team America: World Police.

I haven't seen so many of these. But I did see Tootsie and I agree. It's funny though, how some movies that are more dramas than comedies I really laughed out loud at, at least in places. Your mention of Tootsie reminded me of Midnight Cowboy-- "I'm walkin' here, I'm walkin' here!"

Do you know the story behind the "I'm walkin' here!" line? They were shooting the scene on a real street with the camera across the street and kind of hidden, so the people are real, the cars are real. Evidently when they went to cross the street, Hoffman was almost hit by a cab. He had wanted to say, "I'm acting here!" But of course he couldn't, so "I'm walkin' here!" happened instead.

I'm sure there's a better version of the story out there, and I bet I'm a bit off on some of the details, but that's pretty much it.

Also I agree about TOOTSIE. And THE PRINCESS BRIDE.

ETA: Ah see, I did get the details wrong, but the basic concept is the same. Here's what wiki says Hoffman said on Inside the Actor's Studio:

On an installment of Bravo's Inside the Actors Studio. He stated that there were many takes to hit that traffic light just right so they didn't have to pause while walking. That take, the timing was perfect and the cab came out of nowhere and nearly hit them. Hoffman wanted to say "We're filming a movie here!", but he decided not to ruin the take.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Cowboy#cite_note-10

You know, I'd heard that but forgot. Dustin's one of those guys anyway, he just makes me laugh. I think he's a great dramatic actor, but there's a lot of humor always right there.

You were close enough Toothpaste!

The best actors can play comedy or drama. Though I tend to judge an actor's abilities more on how he/she plays comedy, because I've always thought it was far more challenging (ironically of course it gets far less respect).

Yeah, I've always heard that. I'm sure it's true. I see you're an actor so I'll take your word for it. Who do you think are some of the best at doing both?

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Zoolander are both watch-any-time movies in my house.
The Big Lebowski is another.
The Extra Man with Kevin Kline and Paul Dano is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I was dying of laughter. It was one of those little movies that kind of come and go quickly, which is a shame because it is so good. Kevin Kline plays a very eccentric character who makes his living escorting rich women to various functions; Paul Dano is his quiet boarder who likes to cross dress. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it.

The mention of Kevin Kline reminds of A Fish Called Wanda. VERY funny film.

LOVE The Court Jester!!!!

OMG, me too!! I almost peed my pants watching this as a child. I should force my kids to watch it just so I can see it again! And because it's so wrong that they've never heard of Danny Kaye.
