I finished the first draft of MOUNTAIN MAGIC today. Writing early mornings and evenings, forcing myself to write every day, whether it was one chapter or one line, I got through it in four months. Granted, the rewrites will take many more months, but the story is down and complete. Oh, it's weak, it's sketchy, and in its present form its terrible, but the story is solid, I think.
It's a YA romance with a supernatural twist, and in its current form its at 58K words, right where I wanted it to be.
Now that it's finished, I'm putting it aside to let it rest while I go back to work on my previous YA novel, whose first chapter is currently getting trounced in the YA SYW forum. The trouncing was my choice, finding out much much too late that the first chapter could be what's causing my query to get so many rejections. I think it's time for a rewrite.
