Yep, the first draft of LifeFire is complete.
I had my doubts for the longest time.
And, and, and, I hit my target goal by 200 words over!
Timeline of challenges:
It took me 5 retries to get the first scene the way I liked.
I debated over making two stories into the same book and decided to make a two part book, equally 100Kwords.
It took me 6-7 tries to get a large secondary scene to open up, some drafts equaling 10K
Then I was on a roll for a while.
I hit the middle, at 67Kwords and debated about putting in the second story, deciding not to and leaving it off for the next book.
Still wrote 8K into that, only to trash it.
Wrote for the end.
Worries of conflict and drama/excitement was on my mind because the story started to falsely resolve before it hit the ending.
Took a break to think, while editing my first book some more.
Hit back on the ending and started to pull into the last shot.
Said "F- it, write it" and pushed forward for the last part.
Turned out far more exciting than I hoped, with some tricky battles I know I need to refine in the next draft.
Exiting worked in my favor and wrapped up.
I met all the scenes I wish to meet (except that character sidestory that was made to be in the middle).
After all of that, I've got a running list of things I need to fix and enter into the next draft and I really need to cut some part down, and add scenes into certain areas. I also need to correct the timing of events and figure out a way to add drama and excitement, even the smallest, for the rising action near the climax.
Worry about that later, Will. Let it rest, work on your NaNoWriMo novel, and edit you first novel.
I've got a good idea of the third book, but I'll let that stew.
If you read all of this, I thank you. If you're just throwing out Congrats, I thank you also.
