I've been searching my memory trying to remember a film I watched years ago.

Details are sparse. I just know it was about a suburban haunting in the USA .

A scene that sticks in my mind was that one of the paranormal researchers was sitting on the couch taking a break and watching TV, and he looked to the stairs to see a heavy built woman in a nightdress descend the stairs and straddle him, almost as if she was intent on sexually assaulting him.

She was one of the entities haunting the place, and I seem to recall that it was a very frightening and disturbing scene.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

The Amityville Horror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amityville_Horror) maybe?

Not the Amityville Horror, sorry Stormie, I know that movie too well (saw it in the drive-in when it premiered!). And I've seen the movie many time since then. James Brolin, Margot Kidder, even Meeno Peluci, glowing red eyes in the window, bleeding walls, barking black dog, windows that look like creepy eyes, the priest that gets blinded, James Brolin always chopping wood, and yes, paranormal researchers check out the house. When she rips the panels off the basement wall exposing the red room, she says in a demonic voice, "This is the passageway to hell!"

But I don't know the one referred to by the OP.

No. But thanks all the same.

It may even have been a TV movie.

What time frame are you talking about? Ten years ago or more?
I'd love to help you out but I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I love those kinds of movies. Help me to help you :)

Thanks druid.

I watched it in the early to mid 90's. I wish I could recall more of it. I've been searching for it for about a fortnight now. That one scene sticks stark in my mind for the sheer terror of it. They'd been investigating the house, becoming a bit bored after a few days of finding nothing of any real note, and then the entity walked down the stairs, all the lights on, and initially giving the impression that it was just one of the other occupants of the house.

The total normality of the scenario was what gave it its power. Confounded expectations. No one was expecting the ghost to look and act quite like this. And, if memory serves me, that particular investigator refused to enter the house again.

How old was the guy?

In his late twenties, early thirties.

The woman that assaulted him was more of a contemporary ghost; greasy hair, spots on her face, could almost have been your neighbour who liked to mope around all day in her nightdress and slippers while eating TV dinners.

It was horrible to observe.

Roseanne?

I'm a big horror buff. But that's just too scary to contemplate.
